| The design for the
wings is based closely on the layout of an actual crow's wings. The
reason for this is the importance of proper proportion in creating a
believable costume prop. No human would be able to fly, even with a
20ft wingspan, if all the feathers are 12" or less. A proportional
design called for 3ft primary feathers. As such, they had to be
constructed by hand. |

| Layer's E and D
(Major Coverts, Primaries, Secondaries) Were constructed by hand. Each
feather was made individually
to achieve a relistic layered effect. |
All the layers were
laid out front and back and hand stiched into place. Layers
were
comprised of turkey quills, turkey down, and ostrich drabs. |

| A collapsible frame was constructed for these wings.
The back plate was cast in fiberglass resin so that it conforms
properly to the wearer. The frame is a basic latice structure. |
It would be nice to someday have the frame constructed
of fiberglass so it has a more natural sweep when moved. Plans for a
pneumatic frame are in the works. |
